Once a month (usually at the start of a new month) I begin to think of all the things I could be doing differently.

I suddenly became extra motivated. This will be the month I start eating better, going on more walks, taking care of my skin. I get the urge to clean out my closet and start fresh. I become filled with a little too much motivation. So much so that I end up feeling overwhelmed instead of inspired. I then make it to the end of the month and feel nothing but discouraged because my goals remain untouched.

So instead of getting lost in an endless spiral of to-do lists, I’m going to reflect on the past month (I encourage you to do the same).

Here is my fun little list (I try to do monthly but fail) of favorites!

MEDIA (BOOKS, FILM, ETC)

  • My Kindle: I got a Kindle for Christmas and have been obsessed ever since! I’ve been reading a lot of Mhairi McFarlane and Katherine Center books (comment some recommendations).

  • Princess Diaries: Okay, sue me, I just watched these for the first time, and I’m just as disappointed as you are. I guess I had always just assumed I’d seen them before, but boy was I wrong. There’s nothing like a cute, nostalgic rom-com in the summer!

  • The Materialists: I am still trying to form my thoughts about this one, but I think I thoroughly enjoyed it. I didn’t know anything about this movie going into it (I thought it was a silly, cute rom-com). It was something so different than normal, trendy romance movies, which I LOVED. It felt like satire, making fun of modern dating. Definitely recommend! Here’s my Letterboxd if you want to see more movie recs/lists!

PRODUCTS

  • Youth to the People Moisturizer: If you’ve been hanging around for a while, you know about my skin struggles. For the past year and a half, I’ve struggled with hormonal acne (mostly around my mouth and jaw). I’ve tried numerous different products, cut out foods, etc, and nothing has helped my skin as much (and as quickly) as this moisturizer! I don’t know what it is about it, maybe my hormones have been calming down, but this moisturizer has done wonders for my skin!!!! I recommend it if you have sensitive, combination skin! I haven’t felt this comfortable in my bare skin in SO LONG. A good moisturizer is definitely worth investing in. Click here to try it!

ACTIVITIES

  • Mat Pilates: I’ve never had a consistent workout “routine” until this year! I started taking mat pilates classes in California, and I’m obsessed. I’m not a big workout girl, I usually only do low-impact workouts like walking or pilates! I have back problems, so high-intensity workouts cause a lot of pain in my body. Pilates has been making me feel SO confident - it’s such a girl-coded workout. So if you’re looking for a way to move your body, I recommend pilates!

  • Uno: This one is so random, but lately my friends and I have been addicted to playing Uno. It’s so fun to gather around a table, unplugged from our phones, and play a childhood game! This summer, I want to play more card games and spend less time on the phone when I’m around family and friends, so Uno is the perfect game - again, I recommend it!

MOMENTS!

  • My best friend from Denmark stayed with me this month!

    • We went to Disneyland together- something we had DREAMED about since we were teenagers! Truly, the most magical day, every ounce of exhaustion was worth it.

    • Sofie also got to spend time with my friends here! Somehow, she has been there for every significant era of my life (which is crazy because she lives across the world). Nonetheless, I’m so grateful to have a friendship that can withstand any distance or phase of life.

  • I went home to Michigan for a week!

    • I wish the circumstances were different (my grandma sadly passed) but I went back home to Michigan for a week. Spent time on the lake, spent time with family, and got to eat my favorite ice cream. Michigan in the summer truly is my favorite place to be - there’s nothing like it. I’ve been so nostalgic lately, so I appreciated catching up with family and resting.

Along with reflecting, it’s always good to create new goals for the next month (I don’t usually do this, but I’m trying). Time has been moving fast, so it’s easy to lose track of goals, abandon new habits, and get overwhelmed quickly. I’ve been trying to create small achievable goals such as:

  • Reading my Bible before picking up my phone in the morning!

  • Eating breakfast before my morning coffee (this tends to help with anxiety and energy crashes throughout the day).

  • Making time to call loved ones!

  • Dedicating time/days in my week to work and sticking to them!!!! (I push work to the side because I can never say no to plans)

I’m still coming up with better goals, but, I encourage you to reflect on the month! Focus on the good things! And create simple goals for July! You’re never too far behind. God’s timing is better than anything we could ever plan!

(I say this every time) But I want to post and write more on here. I haven’t even been writing in my private journal, but I always feel so much better when I do! Writing is a good way for me to process, reflect, and find peace, so I definitely need to do this more!

COMMENT YOUR JUNE FAVORITES! I <3 YOU!

TALK SO SOON!

XOXO, MERE
